Sandy Point Dredge Committee members,
The Sandy Point Dredge Committee continues to work with Lummi Nation to resolve their objections to our County and Corps of Engineers permits for dredging the Sandy Point harbor entrance.
We have been meeting with tribal representatives since early 2021 and have made continual progress. Lummi Indian Business Council (LIBC) will need to approve the final agreement.
When we began the negotiations both parties agreed that confidentiality was very important so we can not divulge any of the details at this time.
Unfortunately, this last fall and winter Covid case increases, combined with floods, snow and a tribal election caused the talks to be temporarily interrupted. We are now preparing to meet again and arrive at a workable agreement.
The next dredging opportunity allowed by our permits will be November 1, 2022.
Thank you all for your continued patience and your financial and community support.
