Dredge Committee members,

We are happy to announce that Whatcom County Planning and Development issued our dredge permit on November 24 with an exemption from the Shoreline Management Act.  This means the County is treating the dredge as a maintenance rather than a new development project

The exemption letter and the conditions required for the project can be read here: https://sandypointdredge.files.wordpress.com/2020/11/shr2017-00007-shoreline-statement-of-exemption-20201124-1.pdf

The final project drawings can be seen here: https://sandypointdredge.files.wordpress.com/2020/11/shr2017-00007-approved-redline-site-plans-1.pdf

Lummi Nation filed an objection to the dredge.  This objection will be heard by the County Hearing Examiner and we will update you as that process moves forward.

The appeal documentation is here: https://sandypointdredge.files.wordpress.com/2020/11/apl2020-00005-sepa-appeal-packet-20201124.pdf

The permit requires us to complete a bathymetric (underwater) survey outside the harbor as well as additional eelgrass studies.  These are additional expenses which we had not expected so we are asking for your contributions to cover these additional costs. If your friends and neighbors have not made a contribution now is the time to ask them to contribute

As dredge committee members your financial support has made this difficult and expensive process possible.  Also, your calls and letters to County officials made them aware of the importance of completing the dredge this year.

Thank you,

Board of Directors

Sandy Point Dredge Committee
